This is the third volume published by Archideos Libri in the collection of monographs dedicated to contemporary architects, created and edited by Giancarlo Gardin.
Gianfranco Fini was born in 1936 in Rome, the city where he graduated in architecture from La Sapienza University and where he has been practising the profession of architect and designer since 1976.
As an architect, he comes from an artistic background, having taken an active part in the sixties movement known as the Roman School, which focused on the famous gallery La Tartaruga. He also taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in L'Aquila for several years.
Fini has partnered with the sculptor Mario Ceroli to create stage-sets for productions directed by Bolognini and Patroni Griffi at La Scala in Milan, at the Opera House in Rome, at La Fenice in Venice, at the Arena in Verona and in other theatres and opera houses.
As a designer, he has devised furnishings for several Italian manufacturers, including Poltronova and Autovox.
As an architect, he has created several artistic and cultural works, such as the House of Neptune in Bologna in 1994, the Italian pavilion for the New Orleans Water Fair in 1992, the design for large exhibitions, such as The Normans: a European People in Palazzo Venezia, Rome, in 1994, the church and theatre in Porto Rotondo in 1995 (again with Ceroli) and, again as an architect working in Porto Rotondo, the master plan for the Yachting Marina and the piazzetta at the Sporting Hotel.
Later on, in the same area of tourist developments, he also drew up the designs for the Tabatinga-Lagoa resort on Brazil's Atlantic coast, between Rio de Janeiro and Santos.
In 1992, Fini was commissioned to design the new resort at Casa de Campo, situated along the Caribbean coast to the east of Santo Domingo, near the island of Saona and famous for its golf courses designed by Pete Dye.
This latest venture, unique in its field, gave him the opportunity to monitor the entire development of the Yacht Marina, which occupies an area of more than 100,000 square metres, controlling the design and construction aspects of the entire complex.
It is the story of how this work unfolded that is told in this book and illustrated with more than 300 full-page colour photographs taken by Giancarlo Gardin expressly for the purpose of publishing them here.
The book describes the entire process of developing this great maritime leisure complex, which is located in a landscape of outstanding natural beauty at the mouth of the Rio Chavon. The settlement features a central village, complete with an Italian-style piazza, comprising a hundred apartments and related commercial services, and the yachting marina, now enlarged to the point that it is twice as big as before and equipped to berth more than 400 vessels, also of significant dimensions (75 metres). Several detached houses look directly out over the sweep of the bay, with private boat moorings in front of them. Hidden away in the vegetation or overlooking other stretches of beach, other houses complete the picture of residential variety available in this resort.
Massimo Rosati is an architect and journalist. He has acquired considerable experience in specialised publishing, where he has worked with many of the most important periodicals in the trade. He has been editor of the prestigious magazine La Mia Casa since 1997.
His work as an architect has kept him closely involved for many years in interior design and architecture.
Giancarlo Gardin is a photographer specialising in architecture with a well-deserved international reputation for partnering with leading furniture, architecture and gardening magazines. The author of famous books, he established the publisher Archideos Libri in 1999 and still manages it today.

Este es el tercer volumen publicado por Archideos Libri en la colección de monografías dedicadas a arquitectos contemporáneos, creada y editada por Giancarlo Gardin.
Gianfranco Fini nace en Roma en 1936, donde se gradúa en arquitectura
y ejerce de arquitecto y diseñador desde 1976.
Su vida profesional proviene de una base artística,
habiendo participado activamente en el movimiento llamado
La Escuela Romana durante los años sesenta, con
centro en la famosa galería La Tartaruga. También
imparte clases en la Academia de Bellas Artes de
l’Aquila durante muchos años.
En colaboración con el escultor Mario Ceroli, el arquitecto
Fini trabaja en creaciones escenográficas para producciones
dirigidas por Bolognini y Patroni Griffi en La Scala
de Milán, en el Teatro de la Ópera en Roma, en La Fenice
de Venecia, en la Arena de Verona y en otros teatros.
Como diseñador, ha creado muebles para varios fabricantes
italianos, que incluyen Poltronova y Autovox.
Como arquitecto, ha proyectado varias obras artísticas y
culturales, como La Casa de Neptuno en Bolonia en
1994, el pabellón para la Feria del Agua de Nueva
Orleáns en 1992; ha diseñado grandes exposiciones
como Los Normandos: un pueblo europeo en el ‘Palazzo
Venezia’, de Roma, en 1994, la iglesia y el teatro de
Porto Rotondo en 1995 (también con Ceroli), y como
arquitecto, ha realizado los planes maestros para la
Marina y la piazzetta del Hotel Sporting. Siempre en
ámbito de complejos turísticos, también ha proyectado
el paraíso vacacional de Tabatinga-Lagoa, en la costa
atlántica de Brasil, entre Río de Janeiro y Santos.
Con este bagaje, el arquitecto Fini recibe la comisión de
proyectar el nuevo paraíso vacacional de Casa de
Campo, lugar famoso por sus Campos de Golf diseñados
por Pete Dye, situado a lo largo de la costa caribeña,
al Este de Santo Domingo, cerca de la isla de Saona,
cuya empresa, única en su género, le otorga la oportunidad
de supervisar todo el desarrollo de la Marina, que
se extiende sobre un superficie de más de 100,000
metros cuadrados, controlando los aspectos de diseño y
construcción del complejo en su totalidad. Y es de esta
historia que habla el presente libro, ilustrado con más
de 300 fotografías a color y a toda página, realizadas
exclusivamente para este volumen por Giancarlo
Gardin.
Aquí se describe el crecimiento de este proyecto
urbanístico enclavado en un paisaje de belleza extraordinaria
en la desembocadura del río Chavón. El complejo
se compone de un poblado central, con una gran
plaza céntrica al estilo italiano; cuenta con un centenar
de apartamentos, con servicios comerciales importantes
y con un puerto turístico que ha sido ampliado al doble
del original y está equipado para albergar más de 400
naves incluyendo las de grandes dimensiones (75
metros). Hay varios chalets en primera línea sobre la
bahía, con sus muelles privados al pie de la casa; otros
se encuentran escondidos entre la vegetación, o con
vistas a la playa; y otros más completan el panorama de
la variedad residencial que el complejo puede ofrecer.
Massimo Rosati es arquitecto y periodista. Ha
madurado una gran experiencia en publicaciones especializadas,
habiendo colaborado con las más importantes
del sector. Desde 1997 ha sido el editor de la prestigiosa
revista ‘La Mia Casa’. Como arquitecto, se ocupa
del diseño y del interiorismo.
Giancarlo Gardin es fotógrafo especialista en
arquitectura y goza de fama mundial gracias a su colaboración
en revistas de muebles, arquitectura y jardinería.
Autor de varios libros famosos, en 1999 funda la editorial
Archideos Libri, de la que hasta hoy es director.
