This is the third volume published by Archideos Libri in the collection of monographs dedicated to contemporary architects, created and edited by Giancarlo Gardin.

Gianfranco Fini was born in 1936 in Rome, the city where he graduated in architecture from La Sapienza University and where he has been practising the profession of architect and designer since 1976.
As an architect, he comes from an artistic background, having taken an active part in the sixties movement known as the Roman School, which focused on the famous gallery La Tartaruga. He also taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in L'Aquila for several years. Fini has partnered with the sculptor Mario Ceroli to create stage-sets for productions directed by Bolognini and Patroni Griffi at La Scala in Milan, at the Opera House in Rome, at La Fenice in Venice, at the Arena in Verona and in other theatres and opera houses. As a designer, he has devised furnishings for several Italian manufacturers, including Poltronova and Autovox.
As an architect, he has created several artistic and cultural works, such as the House of Neptune in Bologna in 1994, the Italian pavilion for the New Orleans Water Fair in 1992, the design for large exhibitions, such as The Normans: a European People in Palazzo Venezia, Rome, in 1994, the church and theatre in Porto Rotondo in 1995 (again with Ceroli) and, again as an architect working in Porto Rotondo, the master plan for the Yachting Marina and the piazzetta at the Sporting Hotel.
Later on, in the same area of tourist developments, he also drew up the designs for the Tabatinga-Lagoa resort on Brazil's Atlantic coast, between Rio de Janeiro and Santos. In 1992, Fini was commissioned to design the new resort at Casa de Campo, situated along the Caribbean coast to the east of Santo Domingo, near the island of Saona and famous for its golf courses designed by Pete Dye.
This latest venture, unique in its field, gave him the opportunity to monitor the entire development of the Yacht Marina, which occupies an area of more than 100,000 square metres, controlling the design and construction aspects of the entire complex. It is the story of how this work unfolded that is told in this book and illustrated with more than 300 full-page colour photographs taken by Giancarlo Gardin expressly for the purpose of publishing them here.
The book describes the entire process of developing this great maritime leisure complex, which is located in a landscape of outstanding natural beauty at the mouth of the Rio Chavon. The settlement features a central village, complete with an Italian-style piazza, comprising a hundred apartments and related commercial services, and the yachting marina, now enlarged to the point that it is twice as big as before and equipped to berth more than 400 vessels, also of significant dimensions (75 metres). Several detached houses look directly out over the sweep of the bay, with private boat moorings in front of them. Hidden away in the vegetation or overlooking other stretches of beach, other houses complete the picture of residential variety available in this resort.

Massimo Rosati is an architect and journalist. He has acquired considerable experience in specialised publishing, where he has worked with many of the most important periodicals in the trade. He has been editor of the prestigious magazine La Mia Casa since 1997. His work as an architect has kept him closely involved for many years in interior design and architecture.

Giancarlo Gardin is a photographer specialising in architecture with a well-deserved international reputation for partnering with leading furniture, architecture and gardening magazines. The author of famous books, he established the publisher Archideos Libri in 1999 and still manages it today.

Questo è il terzo volume che Archideos Libri pubblica per la collana monografica dedicata agli architetti d'oggi, ideata e diretta da Giancarlo Gardin, fotografo esperto di architettura.

Gianfranco Fini è nato a Roma nel 1936 dove si è laureato in architettura presso l'Università La Sapienza e dove, dal 1976, esercita la professione di architetto e designer.
La sua natura di architetto ha una formazione artistica, avendo partecipato attivamente negli anni sessanta al movimento chiamato della Scuola Romana, gravitante intorno alla famosa galleria La Tartaruga, e per vari anni ha insegnato all'Accademia di Belle Arti dell'Aquila.
Ha lavorato congiuntamente con lo scultore Mario Ceroli come scenografo in teatro per la regia di Bolognini e Patroni Griffi alla Scala di Milano, al Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, alla Fenice di Venezia, all'Arena di Verona e in altri teatri. Come designer ha progettato elementi d'arredo per varie Ditte italiane quali Poltronova e Autovox.
Come architetto ha firmato alcune realizzazioni d'arte e cultura come la Casa di Nettuno a Bologna nel 1994, il padiglione italiano per la Fiera dell'Acqua a New Orleans nel 1992, gli allestimenti di grandi mostre quali i Normanni popolo d'Europa in Palazzo Venezia a Roma nel 1994, di nuovo con Ceroli la chiesa e il teatro di Porto Rotondo nel 1995, e infine come architetto sempre a Porto Rotondo ha curato il piano generale della Marina e la piazzetta dello Sporting Hotel. Successivamente nello stesso ambito dello sviluppo turistico, ha realizzato anche il progetto per il resort di Tabatinga-Lagoa sulla costa atlantica tra Rio de Janeiro e Santos, in Brasile.
Nel 1992 è stato chiamato per realizzare dei nuovi progetti nel resort di Casa de Campo, famoso per i suoi campi da golf firmati da Pete Dye, situato lungo la costa caraibica ad est di Santo Domingo, in prossimità dell'isola.di Saona. Quest'ultima e privilegiata esperienza di lavoro, unica nel suo genere, gli ha consentito di sviluppare l'intera urbanizzazione dell'area della Marina, che si estende su una superficie di oltre100.000.mq. passando al vaglio gli aspetti progettuali e l'edificazione dell'intero complesso.
Di quest'opera il libro ci racconta la storia illustrandola attraverso oltre 300 fotografie a colori a piena pagina, realizzate da Giancarlo Gardin espressamente per pubblicarle in questo volume.
Ci mostra l'intera realizzazione di questa grande opera "marinara", un complesso urbanistico che è posto in un ambiente paesistico di grande pregio, sulla foce del Rio Chàvon. L'insediamento si compone di un borgo centrale, con la sua piazza "italiana", composto di un centinaio di appartamenti e relativi servizi commerciali, dal porto turistico ora ingrandito più del doppio rispetto all'origine, attrezzato per ospitare oltre 400 natanti anche dalle ragguardevoli dimensioni di 250 piedi (75 mt.).
Alcune residenze unifamiliari affacciate direttamente sull'ampia insenatura con le barche private ormeggiate di fronte. Altre ville stanno immerse nel verde o di fronte a lembi di spiaggia, e completano le tipologie del resort.

Massimo Rosati è architetto e giornalista. Ha maturato una lunga esperienza nell'editoria specializzata collaborando con le più importanti testate del settore. Dal '97 dirige la prestigiosa rivista La Mia Casa, Come architetto, si occupa da anni di design e interior decoration.

Giancarlo Gardin è fotografo di architettura noto a livello internazionale per la collaborazione con importanti riviste di arredamento, architettura e giardini. Autore di libri famosi nel 1999 ha fondato la Casa editrice Archideos Libri, da lui stesso diretta.
